Seniors ’12

My Seniors is personal business to me. I care about each of them and the truth is, it’s because of them that I am able to do what I love and am so passionate about.

As I look at the photographs I captured of my ’12 Seniors I realize just how quickly time passes. It’s almost here. Graduation is just around the corner. Decisions are being made. College choices are being finalized. Excitement is in the air.

I decided to take a little time to choose some of my personal favorite photographs of my ’12 Seniors and created a video to share with all. I am thankful for each of these kids, for their God given talents, their hearts and for sharing who they are today with me.

I truly do have the best job in the world and I thank God every day for this chance.

Hannah’s SeNIoR shoot

She’s right up my alley. She’s fun, creative, artistic, loves photography, sweet and shares many of the same values that I believe in.

When she came for the consult, she had shared with me that originally she had decided that she was not going to have her senior photos done. She was really picky and didn’t really like what she saw and it didn’t fit her. She wanted spontaneity and the photographs to show who she is and she wasn’t finding it. But through Facebook and one of her friends pages, she came across her friends senior photos that I had taken and tagged her on and loved them. She said, I knew then I wanted you to be the one to take my senior photos.

I was left speechless and just felt so special that she should choose me.

She is different. I am different. I like different and the truth is we got along just great!

It was a blast heading out with her and her sweet sister for the afteroon. We started close by and then drove to Bell Buckle. It is a little bit of drive but you achieve two very valuable things in my opinion, which are important to me, especially with my seniors. First, it gives me the time and the chance to just chat. To listen about their dreams and their views of life. Secondly, it gives me the chance to spot cool new locations on the way and be a little adventurous and fun. We will just pull over, jump out, snap a few and then jump back in and continue on…

The Mounivong Family

“Carla, we have never had family photos taken professionally, this would be our first.” Vatsana said to me. I was surprised and yet so honored that Taypa and Vatsana would choose me and want me to capture such sweet moments between their family. She is a dear friend. A strong woman (as tiny as she appears and is) of family values and strength. A mother that would do anything for her children and a wife that looks up to her husband with respect and love. Being around them and seeing them interact with one another showed me the value and importance of family.

This first photo is my favorite from the session. Maybe it’s because I am woman and a mother and I connect and feel the emotional part of this photograph, I don’t know but I love it.

It may not appear to be a “perfect photo” as traditionally your family photo would have everyone looking but it really is a “perfect photo” to me. It shows the embrace of life and family in the midst of this imperfect world we live in. Thank you Vatsana and Taypa for sharing this with me. I count it a blessing.

A little randomness of Nick & I.

Nicholas, my youngest, is involved with the Beta Club and they have a big convention coming up, where the kids work individually or as groups on different projects.

He came home to say so proudly what he had chosen to do. PHOTOGRAPHY. ” I want to take pictures, mom, like you.”. He also did clarify with me that HE had to be the one taking the pictures, which I thought was kind of funny since he knows how I can be. I can honestly and whole heartedly say, photo credits are given to Nicholas Lynn. Of course, I had to snap a few of him shooting. These are definitely moments worth livin’ and documenting.

I did teach him and show him how to “see” the things we have in different perspectives and guided him on how to use the camera. By the end, his response was “mom, I am a beast at this”. I smiled. This is so Nicholas.

The images will be submitted with originals and digitally edited, which he also did as I guided him in Photoshop. The truth is, even if he doesn’t win, he won my heart.

You can’t help but feel the joy this mother shares for her daughters. They mean the world to her and she would do anything for them. She loves hands…and I love feet.I absolutely love everything about this next photo except for the fact that I got eaten alive by so many mosquitos. Oh my gosh! Bug repellant is a most next time. again, the feet that I love to capture.I love capturing their personalities and just watching them grow. It’s a yearly tradition with them and I am sure before I know it, I’ll be shooting their Senior Photos.

Rebecca & Ben’s gift of anniversary

They were celebrating their marriage and instead of giving each other gifts they wanted to give each other memories. It was important to her to have these photographs to look back at and remember this time of their marriage. She just wanted to enjoy some time alone with her hubby and just be herself. What’s also awesome, is that she truly does understand the meaning of what photography is for many of us and appreciates it.

So, this next photo. I know, the feet. I have something for feet. I don’t know why. Maybe that’s my mark. Maybe that’s what makes me, me. Different.

Had to share the “Carla chair”. She loves it. It’s her favorite thing in Tom’s studio. It’s falling apart and yet I agree with her, I love the Carla chair.Sweet, isn’t it?

The Darnall Family shoot

It’s never really a “shoot” for me. I really don’t even like to call it that. It’s more of a “quality relationship outing”. It may sound kind of weird but it’s true. It’s a block of time that my clients have chosen to give in the midst of their busy lives with their loved ones. It’s an emotional investment as they open up their hearts and lives in conversation with me over life, their children, values & dreams. It’s outside- somewhere that’s freely open and gives room for spontaneity. It’s me using my God given gift and love of photography and sharing it with the those wish to have part. It’s creating a painting of life.

You cannot miss the strong presence of commitment that this family has to each other.

Nor the love that they share for each other.

You look into her beautiful eyes and you see her sweet innocenceand you feel his laughter and are just reminded of wonderful life really is.

The Long kids shoot

I sure love having the opportunity to often photograph the same family or children over the years. Having this chance to see them grow and learn about what drives them and watch them express themselves is priceless.

As I photographed Zack & Sydney I realized how fast time goes by. They were no longer the “little ones” as I once knew them. When I shared the video that I had created of them to my dear friend Trish, she was very emotional. She usually does not express much and so I was definitely taken back by it. It wasn’t that the photos were not good because she loved them but it was because she could see how much they had grown. You see, you live day by day. You cram in everything and anything you can. You are running in all sorts of different directions. The days becomes weeks and then weeks become months and then before you know it, it’s been a few years. Then, you stand still for the moment to see and truly see a reality picture. A image of where your loved ones are today in this journey of life.To one of my dearest friends, Trish. May you always treasure these photographs and this moment of your children’s lives.

The Mitchell Boys

Photographing a father and his boys truly gives me much joy. It’s so easy- especially since I have all my boys in my house and I always shooting them. I sure can’t wait for Curtis and his boys to see them all- from the serious images to the ones of them laughing hysterically. I sure love what I do and I love this season of photographing families.
